The fan of my t460s laptop Ubuntu 20.04 is noisy

On behalf of someone else: the fan is noisy (high rpm) on a t460s laptop running Ubuntu 20.04. It has not been upgraded and would probably benefit from it. There is no load that would justify the fan is running so high.

A workaround is to go to sleep and turn back on. The fan is almost silent, proof that it’s not an actual overheating problem.

Here is two screenshots of the sensors when the fan is on a high RPM and therefore noisy

Your fan is running at 4683 RPM which is high indeed. And no temperature level seem to justify that. Here is what my laptop (p51s) shows:

Adapter: ISA adapter
Package id 0: +50.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)

Core 1: +48.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)

thinkpad-isa-0000

nouveau-pci-0200

Let see if the problem persists after an upgrade.

@AlexMla was the problem solved after the upgrade ?

Since the upgrade the fan problem did not come back, so far !
