Vidéo conférence : SFU vs MCU


The tradeoff between using a video conferencing software implementing SFU (like or MCU (like is:

  • SFU does not use much resources on the server but requires participants to have a good internet connexion (more bandwidth, handling multiple incoming data streams simultaneously)


  • MCU uses a lot of resources on the server (because it mixes all video streams into a single one for each participant in real time) but participants with a bad internet connexion have a better experience (a single input video stream)
